In 2018, The Lasting Bible (TLB) was first published, and in 2022, a significantly improved edition has become available. The KJV uses the word lasting one time throughout the entire Bible, often mistranslating the Greek/Hebrew word with the word combination “for ever” (i.e., forever). The Lasting Bible uses lasting 661 times—all very much needed. For example, the one place where the KJV got it right is Deut. 33:15 (“And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills”). The Hebrew word for lasting is olam and is used 439 times in the OT. The KJ translators knew they could not translate olam using for ever, for the hills had a beginning (are not for ever). There are many other examples that point in the direction that a new English Bible is needed. The KJV has also had a significant impact on subsequent translations. The other ones use lasting more frequently, but still there are negative impacts on Bible readers. The Aaronic priesthood, for example, should not be viewed as being “for ever”—neither should circumcision, Solomon’s temple, slavery, leprosy, Jonah’s stay in the fish, smoke rising from Sodom and Gomorrah, punishment in hell, etc.
